We are embracing the Christmas spirit in all it’s sparkly and schmaltzy glory. From Christmas PJ’s to advent calendars, I’ve got it all sorted and Braeden has a big smile about it all. He loves the Christmas season so the trees are up and the advent calendars are at the ready. Braeden doesn’t eat chocolate so I’m always looking for chocolate alternatives. I thought I’d put together a list of all the advent calendars I’ve seen in my travels. Hopefully there’s an advent calendar in amongst my list for all tastes and abilities.

Advent calendars for all tastes & abilities
Braeden has always loved his books and when he was younger I bought him one of these book advent calendars. 
There’s a range of options and each one contains a small book for each day. I’ve seen these at both Target and Big W and noticed Target has some reduced by half price at the moment.
Disney’s Twisted Tales advent calendars are available in Big W for $29. You can also find a huge range of them available on Amazon.
Squishmallow advent calendar
Squishmallows seem to be taking over the world so it is only fitting that they have their own advent calendar. They are cuddly, decorative and cute. I found this Squishmallow advent calendar in a speciality store that stocked lots of the Pop Vinyls but I also noticed that Costco sell it for $38, and you can get it on Amazon.
Barbie advent calendar
Barbie has certainly had a big year so of course she has her own advent calendar. I found this one in Kmart for $55, and it’s also available on Amazon.
The Barbie advent calendar contains a Barbie doll and a range of accessories for every day’s opening.
Disney Christmas decoration advent calendar
I’ve bought a Disney Christmas advent for Braeden the last few years because he is mad about Disney but also he gets to put a new ornament on the tree each day. I’ve found these at Big W for $20 but my pro tip is to buy a year in advance when they are reduced 50%. Keep it in mind for after Christmas this year. Nothing like being prepared. You might be lucky and grab a bargain on Amazon with their Cyber Monday sales.
Keeping with the Disney theme, Target offers a range of advent calendars with hair accessories. These are also $20.
Paw Patrol Advent Calendar
Got a Paw Patrol fan in your house? Well there’s a Paw Patrol advent calendar. I found this one at Kmart for $39, or you can get it on Amazon. Each day there is a character or accessory behind the advent door.
Jurrasic World Advent Calendar
The Jurassic World advent calendar contains 19 dinosaurs and 10 accessories for that budding paleontologist in your life. I found this at Kmart for $39 and it’s available on Amazon.
Lego advent calendars
Lego calendars come in a range of themes from Lego City to Marvel.
The Lego advent calendars are aimed at different age groups so there’s something for everyone.
The Lego advent calendars range in price between $49 and $59 and are widely available. I’ve seen them at Target, Kmart, Big W, and Amazon.
Harry Potter advent calendars
Everyone’s favourite boy wizard has not been forgotten with several Harry Potter advent calendars available .including a Lego one. The Harry Potter advent calendars retail for around $50, though you may be able to snag one for cheap on Amazon.
Hot Wheels advent calendar
I’ve bought this one for Braeden before and found the cars to be really great. You do get some accessories that Braeden couldn’t really do anything with but the cars were a big hit.
Kmart usually stocks this one for $29, and you can get it on Amazon.
Kidstuff advent calendar
Kidstuff toy stores have brought out their own advent calendar and kindly have an opened advent on show for parents to see what they are getting for the $49.99.
It comes with a range of wooden Christmas themed decorations. A great step away from the mostly plastic advents I’ve previously listed.
Pokemon advent calendar
Pokemon fans have their own advent calendar this year. I found this available in a specialty toy store and on Amazon, but then found it at Kmart cheaper at $39.
Bathroom luxury advent calendar
There are many expensive body product advent calendars but if you’re looking for a mid-range one Target has a twelve days of Christmas advent which contains, body scrub, lip balm, bath fizzers and more. Priced at $25. Alternatively, you could order this one on Amazon.
Cookie advent calendar
If you’ve got a sweet tooth but you don’t like chocolate, Coles supermarkets have a cookie advent calendar.
It’s priced at $14.50.
Tea drinker’s advent calendar
If you are a tea drinker like me, perhaps the T2 fancy tea advent calendar will satisfy your curiosity about new tea varieties.
There is one advent calendar priced at $48 and then there is the supreme tea lovers calendar below.
Even this tea lover would find it difficult to shell out $350 for the extravagant tea advent from T2 pictured above.

Hot chocolate lovers advent calendar
Don’t be a grinch this Christmas, let your hot chocolate lover indulge this season in an advent calendar with a range of flavours including cinnamon, candy cane, hazelnut and more.
I found this one at TK Max for $12.99.
TK Max also has a Dr Seuss hot chocolate version also $12.99.
This list is by no means exhaustive. I’ve heard of many other kinds of advent calendars. And finally if you want to tailor an advent to your family or loved one, why not grab some lovely small Christmas bags and pop things in that are tailored to their taste and interest. I often do this for Amelia and have done it again this year. It takes more time and effort but it does ensure the quality of the advent calendar.
Chocolate advent calendars
As always, just about every chocolate brand has an advent calendar available. Many have embraced favourite characters. There’s not much to say about these as it’s obvious what you get with these ones – a chocolate hit and perhaps a dentist bill!

An advent calendar for everyone! I’m a chocolate lover. When does Australia typically start celebrating the Christmas season?
Hi Carol,
I’d say it was traditionally always the 1st of December but slowly slowly people are starting at the end of November. Our trees are up and we are ready to start the celebrations. The stores of course start in September, as soon as Father’s Day is over. Halloween isn’t as big in Australia as it is elsewhere so Christmas is our next big thing.
Enjoy your chocolate advent calendar. It’s definitely the cheapest way to go these days. Advent calendars are getting expensive.
