When we’ve previously visited Maui we have stayed in the Kaanapali area, so on our recent return visit we felt it was time to try a new location. Kaanapali is a fabulous spot, but it is busy and given our visit coincided with the height of the US summer vacation period, we were looking for somewhere quieter. For this reason we picked Wailea, an upmarket location in south Maui.
AC Hotel by Marriott Maui Wailea offers guests all the resort vibes in a quiet location on the island but still close to many of the attractions on every visitor’s must-do itinerary. It should be noted from the start that this property is not located on beachfront so you’ll need to drive to the beach.
AC Hotel by Marriott Maui Wailea review
AC Hotel by Marriott Maui Wailea has a wow-factor with stylish accommodation and all the island vibes you’ll need to let go of the daily grind. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful, which added to our experience and ensured we were armed with local tips for our day-tripping too.
For our stay we booked an accessible king room which offered gorgeous ocean views, a sofa bed and a large balcony. The room can sleep three people thanks to the inclusion of the sofa bed.
The light and spacious room, with all the amenities we needed, made for a luxurious stay in Maui. A generous luggage rack kept the room clear of luggage, the wardrobe offered lowered hanging and the small kitchenette allowed us to prepare some light meals to enjoy on our balcony. It seemed a shame to dine out all the time when we had such a fabulous view.
Blinds and curtains in the room are operated via a wall mounted controller. It’s a convenient way to shut the blinds but the small buttons may prove difficult for anyone lacking fine motor control.
Bedroom facts – entry door 90cm (35.5 inches) bed height 50cm (19.5 inches) and clearance under the bed 19cm (7 inches),
Access to the bathroom is via a sliding door and once inside the bathroom proved just as spacious as the bedroom with lowered amenities making it easy to reach everything. A large vanity also offered enough for toiletries bags to remain close at hand.
The shower is fitted with an overhead rain fixture or a hand-held wand and bench seating. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are difficult to reach from a seated position. If using the shower bench, I recommend travelling with your own amenities that you can sit on the seat beside you.
Bathroom facts – bathroom door 82cm (32 inches), height of shower bench 46cm (18 inches), toilet height to pan 41cm (16 inches) and toilet height to seat 44cm (17.5 inches).

There are no heavy glass balcony doors to wrestle with to access the balcony as there is an automated door that opens with the press of a button. It’s rare to find accessible accommodation with a view, let alone such a spacious balcony with step-free access, two lounges and good circulation space.
We even spotted an owl flying into the nearby tree at dusk one evening.
Each morning with a cup of tea in hand I loved relaxing on the lounge on our balcony taking in the view, but with a long list of sightseeing to do, there was never enough lounge time!
We always factored into our itinerary a swim in the inviting resort-style pool each afternoon. It was the perfect spot to relax after a day of sightseeing. At peak times it can be tricky to find an available lounge chair but there is additional seating around the bar area if necessary.
Happy hour is extremely popular and there is no better place to enjoy it than poolside with the ocean views.
For guests with a mobility restriction, step-free access can be provided into the pool with the availability of a pool seat.
Level pathways lead around the resort from reception to the pool and bar.

There are plenty of places to relax around the hotel with a variety of seating options.
We always appreciate a guest laundry when travelling and usually include laundry sheets in our packing to avoid paying for laundry powder. A collection of coins for operating the washers and dryers is also handy but if you don’t have coins you can change notes at reception.
Accessible parking is available in the outdoor hotel car park at an additional fee.
An accessible path leads from the car park to the guest rooms avoiding the need to navigate through reception which makes coming and going from the hotel much easier.
