On my recent trip to Melbourne, the first photos I captured were in the airport and of a bathroom. That’s the glamorous life of an accessible travel writer! I was truly happy to see these facilities knowing how much they will assist people in need of an adult change facility or hoisted bathroom when they are travelling to or from Melbourne Domestic Airport’s Terminal 3.
ADULT CHANGE FACILITY & HOISTED BATHROOM AT MELBOURNE DOMESTIC AIRPORT
After disembarking from my Virgin flight I was walking through terminal 3 at Melbourne’s Domestic Airport and I spied a subtle sign. I took a closer look and realised it was an accessible bathroom with Changing Places bathroom facilities.
Entry to the bathroom is via a press button and automatic door. Once inside, the bathroom is enormous with plenty of circulation space, a toilet with a backrest and grab rails either side. A ceiling hoist is also available to use with your own sling.
A height adjustable change table is located within the bathroom and there’s an accessible sink with lever taps.
The ceiling hoist is located so it is able to be used with the change table or toilet.
Clear instructions are provided for operating the ceiling hoist and change table.
ADDITIONAL BATHROOM FACILITIES IN TERMINAL 3 MELBOURNE DOMESTIC AIRPORT
It’s great to see a variety of needs being catered for in the bathrooms being provided at Melbourne Airport including an accessible All Gender Toilet.
Inclusion means everyone should feel catered to and welcome.
And nearby there is also a couple of unisex accessible gender specific bathroom facilities.
Hopefully with this range of facilities everyone’s needs are catered to and it will make air travel more comfortable for all.
I thought it was also worth mentioning the hearing loop is installed in all areas.
Melbourne Domestic Airport certainly has the range of bathroom facilities covered. Let’s hope this becomes the norm around the world in the not too distant future.
I’m keen to hear about other airports you’ve visited with these facilities.
