BIG4 Apollo Bay Pisces Holiday Park review

We usually find holiday park accommodation suits our family’s needs well and BIG 4 Apollo Bay Pisces Holiday Park did not disappoint. For our stay we were hosted in a two bedroom accessible cabin but if you need to accommodate more people, we’ve also reviewed the three bedroom accessible cabin.

For us, there are are many advantages to staying in a holiday park cabin, including more space (just look at that lounge real estate – even long-legged Braeden couldn’t spread himself far enough to use it all), self-catering facilities and parking at the door. When bringing in our many bags, it is really handy to only have a short distance to cover, no lifts to wait on and no carpet to roll across.

The two-bedroom accessible cabin at BIG4 Apollo Bay Pisces offered us good circulation space in the lounge room, plenty of seating for all the family, television, reverse cycle air-conditioning and a dining table.

A galley kitchen is well equipped with stove, microwave, full-size fridge and stove top. We took turns at being the dishwasher as this is the only convenience missing.

My inner child was a little bit excited by the nice touch of having Super Doopers (coloured ice blocks) in the freezer for guests – and they are free! A summer staple for many Australian families and a nice touch on arrival.

The two bedroom cabin has a master bedroom which, as it is set up, has room on one side of the queen-size bed for transferring from a mobility device.

When we arrived the bed already had bed raisers fitted. As Braeden doesn’t use a hoist we found the bed a tad high at 65cm but he still managed fine so we didn’t bother removing them during our stay.

Bedroom facts – main bedroom entry 87cm, bed height with raisers in place 65cm and under bed clearance with raisers 19cm.

The second bedroom is compact but offers a double bed with a single bunk bed overhead.

A spacious accessible bathroom includes a toilet with back rest, grab rails throughout, lever taps and a shower bench. I am sure the overhead heat lamps would be much appreciated when staying in winter.

Braeden prefers a shower chair to a shower bench so we were pleased to be offered one on check-in.

Bathroom facts – sliding door entry with 87cm opening, shower bench height 49cm, toilet height to pan 44cm and to seat 47cm.

Step-free entry is provided into the cabin through a sliding door.

And an accessible parking space is provided right at the door and close to a gentle ramp that leads to the verandah and cabin entry.

I was impressed to see a dedicated accessible parking bay for check in too.

A guest laundry is available which includes coin operated washers and dryers.

The nearby beach at Apollo Bay offers a free to use beach wheelchair so we chose the ocean over the pool but there is a pool located within the holiday park. The games room is a popular spot in the afternoons and evenings with plenty to keep everyone entertained. Our favourites were the giant Connect Four and Jenga.

Keep an eye out around the holiday as we were told that a koala was meandering around the grounds one afternoon during our stay. Sadly we missed it but families were very excited to share the news.

We found the staff at BIG4 Apollo Bay Pisces Holiday Park exceptionally helpful and keen to make our stay comfortable. It’s also wonderful to know that staff are all trained in Hidden Disabilities too and offer lanyards to guests who have an invisible disability.
