Blue Poles is on our ‘must do’ list every time we visit Port Macquarie. It is a very pretty drive out to Wauchope but the best part of the drive is from Wauchope to Byabarra. Blue Poles is our favourite café in the Port Macquarie area for lots of reasons. The owners and staff make us feel welcome even when we haven’t visited for over a year. They are gorgeous with the kids and most importantly the food is delicious (our son loves the scones while my husband and I keep going back and back for the lamb!). The view is beautiful and the atmosphere relaxing.
Last time we visited a kangaroo and a joey hopped across the lawn not long after we arrived, as if on cue! The café is accessible by entering via the verandah (as you look at the building, go to the right side to enter via the verandah) If you are visiting on a weekend and need wheelchair access to the café I’d recommend ringing ahead and making a booking as weekends are often busy. We enjoy going on a week day to really take in the peace and quiet of the area but I am sure any day the atmosphere is fabulous. The toilet facility here is not wheelchair accessible. It is down stairs or a hill on the outside of the building. The gallery also has steps up to it.
AJ’s Tip
I love colouring in while we have lunch. At Blue Poles they give you a colouring in book to use and a big container of pencils. I like their kid’s pizza and I usually have ice cream for dessert.
