Accommodation in the Hunter Valley can be expensive but we have found a reasonably priced wheelchair accessible cottage about 15-20 minutes drive from Pokolbin, the heart of the Hunter Valley.
The drive from Sydney to Cottages on Mount View gave us spectacular and far reaching views of the Hunter region as we climbed up to Mount View.
The drive was a combination of gravel and tarred road. We drove through a contrast of scenery with rich green hills with cows grazing and Aussie bush.
Arriving at the cottages we found them well spaced out on the property with views of the bush. The cicadas were in full song as were the bell birds. The hammock in front of our cottage was immediately spied with AJ declaring “my turn first”.
Our two bedroom wheelchair friendly cabin had parking at the door, easy access (no step) inside.
It had everything we needed including kitchen, lounge with flat screen tv and DVD player and a bathroom with a flip down accessible shower seat.
The verandah had a BBQ which was where Hubby cooked the contents of our breakfast basket which was supplied (bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, fresh bread and jam. We had the wine and chocolates the previous evening). I was hopeful I’d have time to read the magazines on the coffee table, because they were even current ones.
For anyone without mobility restrictions there are cabins with outside spas. They looked very inviting and I can’t think of anything better than soaking in a spa under the stars while drinking a drop of local wine.
As we headed out for the evening we saw Kangaroos grazing on the main paddock of the property. I love seeing wildlife in it’s natural habitat.
The cabin we stayed in had one room with two single beds which would be fine with a wheelchair. The double bedded room would be tight with a wheelchair but the owners have said they could move the bed against the wall which may make it doable. I would suggest making an enquiry regarding your personal situation if interested in the cottages as all wheelchairs vary in width. This property is great for families like us and I know we have a variety of people reading our blog.
We will definitely go back to this property when heading to the Hunter Valley because it ticked all the boxes for us and it is economical which is something we always appreciate when travelling.
