Govetts Leap lookout – wheelchair accessible Blue Mountains

Govetts Leap lookout located in the stunning Blue Mountains of New South Wales offers the perfect wheelchair accessible vantage point to enjoy views of the mountains. A recent upgrade to the location’s access and facilities makes this a lovely spot to picnic.

There’s some places in the Blue Mountains which I return to again and again and Govetts Leap lookout is one. On a clear day it’s a spot where I can look out and take in the expansive wonder that is the Blue Mountains. Even on a misty morning there is an allure to Govetts Leap lookout. Govetts Leap also offers a rare paved bush walk/wheel which we’ve enjoyed doing with Braeden on many occasions.

Last weekend we visited Govetts Leap lookout to check out the access upgrades and it reinforced the fact that I never tire of this lookout, no matter how often I visit.

From the car park we started by enjoying the views from the main Govett Leap Lookout before taking the ramp onto the pathway which leads to the Fairfax Heritage walking track.

We’ve wandered the Fairfax Heritage walking track many times so being short on time last weekend we only took the track as far as the next lookout point, George Phillips Lookout. Many visitors stick to the main lookout at Govetts Leap so I love George Phillips Lookout as it’s usually much quieter and the views are just as grand.

The picnic tables at George Phillip lookout also offer better access for wheelchair users. While there are picnic tables and shelters at Govetts Leap, they are not spacious to enable wheelchair access.

The shelters also frame a photo beautifully.

If time permits walk or wheel from George Phillip Lookout to the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre through the bush on the sealed track. The walk is accessible throughout with some gentle slopes along the way. At various times of the year you may spot our native fauna in flower and if you’re lucky hear some local birdsong. The walk should take no longer than 20 minutes with stops.

If you are day tripping to the Blue Mountains or better still, indulging in a short stay, make sure you put Govetts Leap lookout at Blackheath on your must-visit list.
