There is a saying, “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.” That is often true but for the purposes of this blog I would say, “You don’t know how good something is until you’ve got it.”
What is that something I hear you ask? Well, in this case it is choice: the choice of where we go and when we go there. BJ received his very own beach wheelchair last weekend so we are now able to say, Have Beach Wheelchair Will Travel. A wonderful gift from the Hastings Lodge in Port Macquarie (our second home) We have been using beach wheelchairs on our visits to Port Macquarie for years and I have always been thrilled with the fact that, unlike other regions, Port has 3 beaches where the wheelchairs can be borrowed and used. When people on our Facebook page saw photos of BJ using the beach wheelchairs they would ask where to buy them and how much they cost. I was a little perplexed because I felt they were large to store and expensive to buy unless you actually lived in a beach suburb. What I didn’t realise is how liberating it is to have the power of choice. The beach wheelchairs on loan are only available during life guard operating hours and as I mentioned before at specific beaches.

After receiving BJ’s beach wheelchair we spent the long weekend exploring beaches we wouldn’t have visited in the past and like naughty teenagers we stayed out late with the chair for a sunset beach walk.

Long after the life guards had packed up their flags and the loan beach wheelchair we were wandering the beach with complete freedom.

Choice is such a powerful thing and having our own beach wheelchair has given us choice without limits.

We would like to thank Lodge Hastings and Brian from Yabby Industries for this incredible gift. We are beyond delighted and we are excited to see where our Sandcruiser adventures will take us in the future.
