Hotel Paradox Santa Cruz – hotel review

On my recent trip to the US I stayed in many hotels. They were all lovely but the Hotel Paradox, Santa Cruz won my heart. It was my favourite, even though it was the hotel where I had the least time. The hotel is fun, stylish and reflective of Santa Cruz’s vibe and the best bit, it offers accessible facilities too. I love a hotel with personality and the Hotel Paradox oozes it. I’m pleased to share my review of Hotel Paradox in Santa Cruz.

Hotel Paradox Santa Cruz – hotel review

Hotel Paradox is a low-rise building with a retro feel but with all the modern conveniences of boutique accommodation. I was appreciative of a ground floor accessible room not  far from the hotel’s restaurant, pool and reception.

Each room has a little balcony area with a couple of chairs outside but the location of the accessible room meant it was in a fairly busy thoroughfare so I can’t imagine sitting outside but it’s nice to have the option.

Hardwood floors! Why don’t more hotels offer hardwood floors? Not only are they easier to wheel across compared to carpet for wheelchair users but they make it smoother travels with luggage too. Everyone’s a winner with a non-carpeted room and I imagine it’s more hygenic too.

While the accessible room at the Hotel Paradox isn’t enormous, the space has been used well and I imagine staff would be happy to remove any excess furniture if you find circulation space tight.

Bedroom facts – entry door to room 90cm (35.43 inches), bed height 72cm (28.35 inches), under bed clearance 18cm (7.08 inches), end of bed to desk 86cm (33.86 inches).

Entry to the bathroom is via a barn-style sliding door which operates smoothly but the style of the door does narrow the entry into the bathroom. It’s probably the best choice for the space on offer though.

The accessible bathroom at the Hotel Paradox is spacious and offers plenty of circulation room. The space includes a roll-in shower, shower bench, height adjustable shower head and grab rails throughout.

Hooray for an accessible sink with room on the side for toiletries and lowered amenities including the hair dryer and light switches.

Bathroom facts – bathroom door clearance 70cm (27.56 inches), shower bench height 44cm (17.32 inches), toilet height to pan 38cm (14.96 inches) and height to toilet seat 40cm (15,75 inches).

A lowered hanging rail is provided in the wardrobe.

As I give you a video room tour in the video below please excuse my voice, I was sick and not feeling the best.

The Hotel Paradox embraces the outdoors and fun with a pool, outdoor fire pit, giant Jenga game and more.

As with all US hotels, a pool seat is available for guests with a mobility restriction to access the pool.

I’ve said many times I love a hotel with personality, one that makes a lasting impression because it is reflective of its environment or unique in its theming, and the Hotel Paradox offers just that.

Quirky art and statement pieces amongst the furnishings make this hotel memorable for all the right reasons.

I was hosted for my stay at Hotel Paradox but I’d return to both the hotel and Santa Cruz in a heartbeat. This is my kind of hotel from the stunning murals that greet guests on arrival to the quirky interior, I can’t wait to take my family back.
