Yesterday we arrived home from an amazing week away at Hamilton Island. It was fabulous spending time as a family and the island proved an idyllic location. We’ve been wanting to do an island holiday for a while but we couldn’t find the right spot. Although Hubby, AJ and I would happily laze on a beach or by the pool all day, one ever-energetic family member, BJ, wouldn’t be so content. Family holidays are about everyone having fun and Hamilton delivered to the point that we were hoping our flight home would be cancelled. AJ may or may not have mentioned sabotage, that’s how desperate she was for the holiday to continue. When she realised that the flight wasn’t going to be cancelled she started plotting our family’s return to Hamilton. Apparently, she’d be happy with three times a year!

When choosing Hamilton Island there were many factors in the decision process. We needed somewhere not too far from Sydney as we only had a week to spare between AJ finishing school and other family events. Hamilton Island is only 2 hours away and after researching the activities on the island it seemed to tick most of the boxes. There were lots of activities to keep BJ happy, while still providing plenty of opportunities for swimming and water sports.

I’d heard that Hamilton Island was hilly and considering we travel with a manual wheelchair I wasn’t sure how we’d manage to get around. It turns out I didn’t need to worry. Our holiday apartment came with a golf buggy for our use during our stay and the island has an accessible shuttle bus service.

I can’t wait to share all the details on Hamilton Island. I had so many preconceived ideas and all of them were shattered. I absolutely loved it and one experience in particular was totally out of this world. I felt like a movie star playing a role in a glamorous movie. More on that soon.

Meanwhile, enjoy these photos taken at One Tree Hill, Hamilton Island, as sunset approached.
