During my trip to Oregon I was pleased to have another try at glass blowing. I first tried glass blowing on a trip to Fiji but unfortunately the studio was at the top of a large staircase. So, it was particularly pleasing to enter Lincoln City Glass Center with our Oregon group and find that we could all access not only the store, but also the glass blowing workshop.
Each of us tried our hand at creating a glass float and while I eagerly participated, I wouldn’t have completed the task successfully without much guidance and patience from the staff who ensured we all ended up with a beautiful float.

Lincoln City Glass Center is located on the Oregon Coast and even if you don’t want to try your hand at glass blowing, I highly recommend a visit to the gift shop. I purchased some lovely gifts from the store which are a constant reminder of my special time in Oregon.
Glass blowing workshop participants can choose to make a glass float, heart, votive candle holder, paperweight, jellyfish paperweight or a fluted bowl. Prices vary according to your choice but start from USD75 up.
One of the hardest parts of the process is deciding on the colours, designs and what you’d like to create. Once that decision is made a team member assists one on one with the process of making your glass creation.
There’s no better souvenir than one that teaches you a new skill, connects you with a local and gives you something to take home to remember your travels.
The glass does need to cool down overnight so you either need to pick it up the next day or have it shipped (additional cost). I was concerned about my float arriving in Australia in one piece but it did and now proudly sits in my lounge room.
The glass blowing workshop is step-free and offers good circulation space for a wheelchair user or anyone using a mobility aid. Work benches are also at a good height for access.
The store also offers good circulation space and there is also an accessible bathroom.
I always travel with bubble wrap because I am guaranteed to purchase something fragile. I had to restrain myself in the Lincoln City Glass Center but I do have several lovely items.
I had many highlights during my travels in Oregon and this one is up there in my top five.
