If you are planning a visit to Sydney, or looking for a city hotel with accessible accommodation for a staycation, the PARKROYAL Darling Harbour may be the hotel for you. Located within an easy wheel or walk of Darling Harbour’s restaurants, attractions and entertainment, this hotel is a great option for an accessible Sydney stay.
PARKROYAL Darling Harbour – accessible Sydney accommodation
Recently I was attending a conference in Darling Harbour, Sydney and although I don’t live far from Sydney’s CBD, knowing that I had a busy few days I decided to stay near the conference which was being held at the International Convention Centre. The PARKROYAL Darling Harbour offered comfortable and conveniently located accommodation for my stay. As always, I requested an accessible room so I was able to share a review. I stayed in room 237 at PARKROYAL Darling Harbour and I’m happy to say it offers an interconnecting room if you are travelling with support or visiting as a family.
The king bed offered a super comfortable night’s sleep and has the option to be split into two beds should you require that bedding configuration.
The room is spacious, offering space on either side of the bed for transferring if you are a wheelchair user.
Bedroom facts – bed height 57cm, clearance under the bed 12cm
A large bathroom offers reasonable circulation space and is equipped with a wheelchair accessible wash basin with lever tap and grab rails throughout.
The step-free shower offers a height adjustable hand-held shower and the option of a small fixed shower seat or a shower chair. It’s always pleasing to see a hotel recognising that there’s no one-size fits all approach to the equipment needs of people with a disability when they travel. Having a choice is always fantastic.
The taps in the shower require a turning action as they are not lever taps.
Bathroom facts – Bathroom door has a clearance of 98cm, toilet height to seat is 46cm, toilet height to pan is 44cm. The fixed shower seat is 43cm high.
Amenities within the room, including the hair dryer and iron, are lowered. The rail for hanging clothes is at regular height. There is a lowered peep hole in the entry door.
Many of you will know I always make good use of the kettle and tea facilities which are also at a good height for a wheelchair user at the PARKROYAL Darling Harbour.

Nothing gets my day off to a better start than a good buffet breakfast so I was happy to have a complimentary breakfast included.
Access throughout the hotel is via a lift, including to BARKERS, the location of breakfast each morning. BARKERS offers seating on two levels within the restaurant with a ramp linking the two areas.
The buffet breakfast at PARKROYAL Darling Harbour offers a lovely variety of cereal, fresh fruit, pastries and all the hot goodies your heart could desire. My absolute favourite is a made-to-order omelette which I indulged in both mornings. Buffet breakfast items are at a good height for access for wheelchair users.
I didn’t have much time in the hotel but appreciated the room service in the evening when I was too tired to go out in search of food and had work emails to respond to. The location is absolutely wonderful with just two traffic lights to cross between the hotel and Darling Harbour. It’s literally just across the road. And so close for anyone attending events at the International Convention Centre.
My stay coincided with World Pride in Sydney and hotel rooms were super expensive everywhere but PARKROYAL Darling Harbour still offered good value for money. I paid for my stay but I did receive complimentary breakfast.
As always, my hotel review of PARKROYAL Darling Harbour reflects my experience during my stay.
