Stevensons Falls is one of the most spectacular and accessible waterfalls in the Otways and is about an hour’s drive from Apollo Bay. We visited on a gorgeous afternoon and enjoyed both the drive and the relatively easy wheel to the falls.
Stevensons Falls – Great Ocean Road
Although it was difficult to pull ourselves away from Apollo Bay and the beautiful Great Ocean Road coastline, we were keen to connect with nature and visit Stevensons Falls. It was the perfect afternoon activity while we were staying at Apollo Bay.
This accessible walk involves a variety of terrains including boardwalk, concrete path and compacted gravel pathways.
There are a few inclines but overall it is easy going all the way. We did find the compacted gravel section and Braeden’s small caster wheels (at the front of his chair) didn’t work in total harmony but that just made for a bit of a jolty section rather than preventing access. This walk is ideal for parents with prams, wheelchair users and anyone looking for a relatively easy walk.
We loved the variety of scenery and the feeling of having the area almost to ourselves. We passed one other couple the whole time we were there.
Our walk took us from the car park and picnic area through a stand of large Californian redwood trees, across the Gellibrand River, along the river before arriving at the accessible viewing area at the base of the waterfalls.
We always value access to nature and this is a particularly pretty spot to spend an afternoon.
Without rails and fencing in the way Braeden had a fabulous view of the waterfalls and it proved a pretty good spot to snap some family photos.
Accessible parking is positioned at the start of the walk and two accessible toilets are nearby too. Keep in mind this is nature and the toilets are long-drops.
