When visiting Cairns recently I was keen to see a variety of accommodation options because we know our readers have varying needs and budgets. While it’s lovely to be staying in accommodation on the Cairns Esplanade, it’s a prime location and you pay more for it. For this reason I thought I’d check out an apartment a short drive from town.
Situated close to the centre of Cairns, Tropic Towers Apartments has comfortable apartment accommodation including a wheelchair friendly apartment.
You’ll notice I say wheelchair friendly as the apartment is not fully accessible but will suit many.
The wheelchair friendly two bedroom apartment is on the ground floor of the apartment complex with easy access through the main entrance.
The apartment includes a kitchen, lounge and dining area.
The kitchen is equipped with a full size fridge, dishwasher and oven.
MASTER BEDROOM
The main bedroom has a queen bed with room on either side of the bed to transfer.
SECOND BEDROOM
Two single beds are in the compact second bedroom.
BATHROOM
The accessible bathroom includes a roll-in shower (there is a small barrier around the perimeter to stop water going everywhere but able to be wheeled over), grab rails throughout and a hand-held shower head.
A small flip-down shower seat is available in the bathroom.
A washing machine and dryer are available within the apartment which is always fantastic for families travelling. The dryer would be difficult to access for a wheelchair user.
FACILITIES
Off-street parking is available onsite but there’s no designated accessible parking.

The pool area is wheelchair accessible.
From Tropic Towers Apartments it’s an easy 5 minute drive into the heart of Cairns (depending on traffic) and the location provides easy access up and down the coast if you are self-driving.
We didn’t stay at Tropic Towers Apartments but we were fortunate to take a look between guests when we were staying in Cairns.
